First of all, don´t name a field as Date. Date, Time, Value and so on are "reserved words". You may get in trouble in some cases if you use these words. Better use a prefix that prevent this kind of problem and may also give an idea of the kind of control is been referred. txtDate is a good name. Now if you need reference a control within a subform, you may do somewhat like the following:

Forms!ParentFormName!SubFormName.Form!ControlName = Date
